Meet Bethany Hamilton. Her poster was once  hanging from the rafters in my lunch line in high school. I saw her every morning and afternoon just standing there with her surfboard. And I always thought, oh hey cool-she surfs with one arm. She has not crossed my mind since. Until tonight, when my mom suggested with go see the movie Soul Surfer. Honestly, I was like Really mom? No, thanks. Cheesy city. However, considering I have no life- I went. I mean, I love the beach so at least I could close my eyes and pretend I was there if the movie sucked. Get this. To my surprise-it didn't suck. It was super inspirational. (Sorry, if you have not seen this movie and I have ruined it for you-except I haven't. You can obviously already tell the girl lost her arm surfing-and that is the main plot. So SURPRISE! ) Probably I decided that Carrie Underwood-bless her heart-should not quit her singing to become an actress. But, besides that-I am in love with surfing. I was on the edge of my seat. Especially waiting for the shark to attack. It was slightly anti climatic and the shark just looked like a man in a grey sweat suit -but, it didn't even matter. I was laughing and I was crying. I despised the idiot mean girl, just like Bethany did. I felt for her when she couldn't cut her tomato. Also, when she ripped her barbie's arm off. I should have laughed, but instead I continued to be inspired.The acting was cheesy at times, but in the end,  I feel like Bethany and I really connected in this movie.  And now- I totes want to be a surfer. (Totes means Totally it is my new abbreviation these days). Seeing above, as my dad has some strong surfing genes in him- I have definite potential. And I am now going to start practicing my surfing lingo by including things into my daily conversations like-"ripping wave", "dude", " so rad", "hang loose" and most importantly-"surf's up". I encourage all of you dudes to try with me and to see this movie. Surf's up.
